Meet Dr. Diane Ray

Accompanied by a fabulous team, I am happy to be part of a warm and friendly environment at State College Orthodontics. Together, we strive to create a positive atmosphere for each other and the people we serve.

Being a solo practitioner has allowed me to balance my commitments to my family and my patients to the best of my ability. I truly love what I do. Both personally and professionally, I try to be a positive influence in the lives of others.

Education & Experience

After I graduated from Penn State with a B.S. with honors in biology, I attended Temple University School of Dentistry, where I received my D.M.D. During my second year of dental school, I realized what a great fit the specialty of orthodontics was for me.

After dental school, I attended the University of Maryland Dental School for a three-year post-graduate dental residency in Orthodontics.

While in residency, I had the opportunity to participate in craniofacial genetic research at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Center for Craniofacial Disease and Disorders. In addition to earning a certificate in Orthodontics, I also received a Master of Science in Oral Biology.

Outside of the Office

I was blessed to meet my husband, Steve, during my residency. We have two beautiful children and enjoy living in State College.

Why See an Orthodontist Instead of a Dentist?

If you’re wondering whether to see a dentist or orthodontist for teeth straightening, it’s important to understand the difference. While dentists and orthodontists both focus on oral health, orthodontists like Dr. Ray complete additional years of specialized training in correcting misaligned teeth and jaws.

This means that when you visit an orthodontist, you’re getting expert-level care for issues such as crowded teeth, overbites, underbites, spacing, and jaw alignment. Orthodontists are also skilled in using a wide range of tools braces, aligners, retainers to guide teeth into healthier, more functional positions. Simply put, for anything related to straightening teeth or improving your bite, seeing an orthodontist ensures the best long-term results.

The Life-Changing Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment

A straight smile does more than just look great, it transforms your life in countless ways. Orthodontic treatment can improve your bite, reduce wear and tear on teeth, and make brushing and flossing more effective. But the benefits go beyond physical health.

When your smile looks good, you feel good. Orthodontics can boost your confidence in social settings, help you speak more clearly, and make you feel more at ease in photos, presentations, and conversations. For kids and teens, orthodontics can promote healthy habits and build self-esteem early on. For adults, it can be a second chance at the smile you've always wanted without sacrificing professionalism or convenience.

And thanks to today’s technology, achieving a great smile is more comfortable and discreet than ever before. With options like Invisalign and clear braces, many patients can undergo treatment without anyone even noticing.
