At State College Orthodontics, we value the fact that successful orthodontic treatment is the result of working together as a team. Along with your family dentist, we are dedicated to helping you achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.
About Dr. Diane Ray
After I graduated from Penn State with a B.S. with honors in Biology, I attended Temple University School of Dentistry where I received my D.M.D. During my second year of dental school, I realized what a great fit the specialty of Orthodontics was for me. From the principles of growth and development and the biology of tooth movement to the clinical applications of improving someone’s bite, it provided the perfect balance for my scientific curiosity and desire to help and care for people.
At the completion of dental school, I attended the University of Maryland Dental School for a three year post-graduate dental residency in Orthodontics. While in residency, I had the opportunity to participate in craniofacial genetic research at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Center for Craniofacial Disease and Disorders. In addition to earning a certificate in Orthodontics, I also received a Masters of Science in Oral Biology.
I was blessed to meet my husband, Steve, during my residency. We have two beautiful children and enjoy living in State College.
Accompanied by a fabulous team, I am happy to be part of a warm and friendly environment at State College Orthodontics. Together, we strive to create a positive atmosphere for each other and the people we serve.
Being a solo practitioner has allowed me to balance my commitments to my family and my patients to the best of my ability. I truly love what I do. Both personally and professionally, I try to be a positive influence in the lives of others.
Meet. Dr. Richard J. Doerfler
I believe we achieve a great smile and healthy bite for our patients by forming close, working relationships with them — along with their families and family dentists.
So we’ll take the time to personally get to know you. We want to know what makes YOU smile!
I like keeping up with the latest technology and developments in orthodontics, and teach orthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh, as an associate, clinical professor. The University of Pittsburgh is where I studied and trained, earning degrees in Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Dental Science in Orthodontics, Master of Science in Anatomy and Histology and Master of Arts in Physical Anthropology.
The professional organizations I belong to include the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, American Cleft Palate Association, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and the Centre and Clearfield Counties Dental Societies.
Outside of orthodontics, my wife, Jane, and I have lived in State College for nearly 30 years and are the proud parents of two children, Reed and Bethany. Reed was the Grand Marshal of the Biology Department at Schreyer Honors College, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and has accepted a residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Bethany is a State College Area High School graduate and works in a sheltered workshop through Skills of Central PA. My wife, Jane, is the Director of Accounting for the Mount Nittany Physician Group in State College, PA.
I’m also fortunate enough to sit on the Parents Council of Schreyer Honors College, I’m a certified financial planner and I also received my Masters in Theology from the Augustine Institute.
In my spare time, I’m an avid bicyclist and I feed my creative side as an amateur nature photographer. I’m also a film buff and enjoy working on my home theatre system.
